Review of Chuck Dixon and Joe Bennet’s new comic and hero, The Horseman.

Review of Chuck Dixon and Joe Bennet’s new comic and hero, The Horseman.

I just finished reading the New Horseman graphic novel By Dixon and Bennet. I have to say I really liked it a lot. There was really no bad to this one. If I have anything negative to say, it’s that his background felt a little rushed. There was no build up as to where he got the inspiration to do this (I know that accident that cost his sister the use of her legs, but it was glossed over.) or how he got his equipment, and maybe a little more about him. What made him join the army in the first place? Etc. That’s the only bad I have to say, and it’s not so bad.

Now on to the good. This thing had some spectacular art by Joe Bennet. I think he may have drawn some Spider-Man before, at least that’s where I think I recognize his art from. But he’s one hell of an artist. The multiple splash pages leapt off of the book while Chuck’s dialogue was exciting and intriguing. You can consider this the first arc of the character; at least I hope you can. It ended fairly definitively, though it left the opening for another volume. It was extremely good and I read it in one sitting.

These guys are at the top of their game with this character. It was that good. What I loved about this, besides the constant action and thrills, was that there was no ridiculous agenda in it. That’s what kills modern day comics. This was just great storytelling. Even The coloring was fantastic  and moody! This was everything it was sold to be; a great new comic that had a solid story and was filled with action. This book was spectacular! I hope there’s a number #2 on the horizon, because I’m really looking forward to it!
